Terror

Ferdinand von Schirach

About Play

This impressive interactive moral drama tells the story of a military pilot, Major Lars Koch, who appears in court and has to account for shooting down a civilian aircraft with 164 people on board. None of them survived. Lars Koch, however, acted from the best of intentions.

The aircraft was hijacked by terrorists who intended to target the Munich Allianz Arena where, at that moment, 70,000 spectators were watching a football match. Did Lars Koch have the right to kill 164 innocent people? Is he a hero or a mass murderer? And are there situations in which killing others is a good solution? In turn, the jury hears out the arguments of both parties and consequently it must decide about the defendant’s guilt or innocence. And by the way, who is the jury? Well, the audience!

This courtroom drama by the German defence attorney Ferdinand von Schirach, who actually began to write books by accident, has become a theatrical hit in several recent seasons. Terror has been presented at over forty renowned theatre stages all over the world and has been viewed by over a half a million theatregoers. The play is accompanied by a website, terror.theater, where you can see where the drama has actually been performed and what the results of the voting in particular countries and theatres are. The drama department of the Moravian Theatre will present Terror outside the subscription period in the intimate environment of the Šantovka Theatre. The direction will be provided by Petr Štindl, who returns to cooperation with the Moravian Theatre after six years.
